Computer Classes

We Want To Help You Learn!   Check out our class schedule below!

Library staff, Cheryl Bradley, Pam McRae and Alan Samry, and volunteers, Anne Hinrichs, Charles McInnis, and Bill Carroll offer free classes on using computers and other electronic devices.  Descriptions of some of the classes are listed below.

Not all classes are offered every month and we add new classes all the time so for the most up-to-date information on dates and times click on the events calendar or this month's list of classes.

Connect with the Computer and Internet for Seniors (3 classes)

Meet the Mouse and Keyboard and Learn Basic Computer Navigation -This is an excellent beginning class for seniors who have no computer experience. You will learn the parts of computers, use of Windows operating system, and how to surf the web using different browsers, i.e., Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox.

Quick Connect with the Computer and Internet (4 classes)

Learn Basic Computer Navigation -This is similar but moves at a faster pace and omits the mouse and keyboard session. Don't be afraid to try this class if you have some web surfing experience.

Test Drive the iPad (3 classes)

Is an iPad for you?  Try it before you buy.  Anne introduces the iPad and it's various settings that make it so adaptable for the older or visually impaired user. 

Microsoft Excel 2010

Introduction to Excel- Charles shows how to get started with creating and formatting spreadsheets and using formulas

Advanced Excel - Advanced and special topics are covered in multiple sessions over two months

Free Online Tutorials

Learn How to Turn Your Photos into a Movie

Using Windows Movie Maker -  Charles will teach you how to take your photos and animate them using free software.  Add sound and special effects to make a travelogue or picture album that is exciting to watch.  Make an appreciated gift for family and friends.

Microsoft Publisher

Become a Design Expert -   Bill shows you how to how to use Microsoft Publisher to create eye-catching flyers, banners, business forms, invitation cards, letterheads, gift certificates, menus, signs, tri-fold handouts, tickets, real estate handouts, ads, business cards, greeting cards, invitations, name tags, and much more.  Join the series of nine classes at any point as Bill goes from beginner to advanced techniques.

MacBook Air

Learn with Us -  In order to keep up with our high school students, we are learning how to use the MacBook Air.  Cheryl will share newly discovered tips and features of the MacBook Air and Apple software including Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iPhoto, and iMovie as she goes from PC to Mac.

Ancestry.com for Beginners

Discover Your Family History -  Pam and Alan tag-team teach Ancestry.com for Beginners. Pam has traced her family back to the 1700's and provides an overview of US Census Record, as well as birth, death and marriage searches. Alan is from a family of newcomers to the US, arriving in the 1910's. He covers the immigration and military databases of Ancestry.com, which is accessible for free within the library.

Join the Genealogy Research Club - Amateur genealogist of all skill levels meet once a month to share tips, seek advance and celebrate discoveries.

Microsoft Word 2010

Introduction to Word -  Learn the basics of using the word processing program.

Advanced Word - Advanced and special topics are discussed.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Make an Exciting Presentation -  Bill demonstrates the basics of using Microsoft PowerPoint to teach, entertain and convince your audience.  As the nine weekly classes proceed you will learn how to effectively present information and keep your audience awake as Bill progresses from the basic to advanced level.  Join the class at any point.
